Second Home Visa โ€” who it suits

The Second Home Visa is designed for wealthy foreigners who want long-term residence in Indonesia without working there. The IDR 2 billion deposit (approximately USD 130,000 at current rates โ€” verify the exact USD equivalent as the rupiah fluctuates) must be placed in an Indonesian bank account and maintained. Property of equivalent value is an alternative to the cash deposit.

Digital Nomad Visa (E33G) โ€” the remote worker alternative

The E33G Digital Nomad Visa allows remote workers to live in Indonesia while working for overseas employers or clients. Requires proof of employment and income from a foreign source. 60-day initial period with extensions available. Does not confer the same residency rights as the Second Home Visa. Indonesia has been inconsistent in processing E33G applications โ€” check with the Indonesian Embassy for current processing status before applying.

KITAS โ€” the practical permit you actually need

The KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas) is the limited stay permit issued to approved foreign residents. It is what you show to open a bank account, apply for a driving licence and access most formal services in Indonesia. Your visa application results in a KITAS being issued.

Tax position on Second Home Visa

If you spend 183+ days in Indonesia in a 12-month period you may become a tax resident, subject to Indonesian income tax on worldwide income. Those who divide their time and stay under 183 days may remain non-residents. Seek local specialist advice. See the Indonesia tax guide โ†’
