Emirates NBD โ most widely used by expats in Dubai. Good app and English service throughout. Salary transfer account requires employer relationship. ADCB โ strong in Abu Dhabi. Good digital banking. First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) โ largest bank by assets in the UAE. Both salary transfer and individual accounts available.
Most UAE current accounts require your salary to be transferred through the account (Wage Protection System compliance). If you are employed in the UAE, your employer typically handles this. If self-employed or on a freelance/investor visa, ask specifically about accounts that do not require mandatory salary transfer.
Many UAE bank accounts have minimum balance requirements (typically AED 3,000โ25,000 depending on the account type). Falling below the minimum triggers monthly maintenance fees. Check the specific account terms before opening.
