Wise is the best for most GBP to NZD transfers. Mid-market rate, small transparent fee, typically 1–2 business day delivery to NZ bank accounts. Can send directly to ANZ NZ, ASB, Kiwibank and other NZ banks.
OFX has no transfer fee and is competitive on GBP to NZD for larger amounts. Good for regular salary or pension transfers. Phone dealing available 24/7.
Remitly and WorldRemit also support GBP to NZD but Wise and OFX are consistently cheaper for the UK-NZ corridor.
Major NZ banks for expats: ANZ NZ, ASB Bank, BNZ (Bank of New Zealand) and Kiwibank are the main retail options. ANZ NZ and ASB have good digital banking. You can usually apply for an account before arriving — check each bank's website for non-resident account opening procedures.
Maintain UK banking. Keep a Starling or Monzo account active for UK Direct Debits, UK pension receipt and to avoid losing your UK banking history. Much harder to re-establish once closed.
